Problem: You want to install snort
on your e-smith/SME

Solution: Follow this HowTo

READ!

!!!!! Please remove all older release first
!!!!!

STEP 1: Get archive file :

sme-snort-2.3-2.2.i386.rpm




HERE

STEP 2: Install base


# rpm
-ivh sme-snort-2.3-2.2.i386.rpm

STEP 3: Starting service

Now your snort
is ready to launch.

After you reboot, service will start automatically.

Or if you don't want to reboot:


# service snortd start

This package will
initialize mysql database for you.

Init automatically start of snort service.

Configure init script.

Configure snort.



Installation will be automatic if you
server mode is "server-gateway".

Otherwise snort will listen on interface eth0.



Note for user of e-smith 5.6 follow these step:


# /sbin/e-smith/db configuration set ExternalInterface interface Name
eth1

and replace eth1 by your output interface. Restart snort after that command.

STEP 4: Install
Acid

#
rpm -ivh sme-acid-0.2-1.noarch.rpm



Now open your favorite browser at

https://[your server]/acid/

Log you with admin loggin and password like server-manager
